Last weekend, in order to escape the heat and wind and dryness of Grand Junction, we escaped to Trappers Lake.
When we left Grand Junction, the thermometer was reading 101 degrees !
By the time we drove through Meeker and took the road to Trappers Lake, 51 miles from the highway, the thermometer was reading this:
And yes, those are raindrops on the windshield.
The likes of which we've not seen in months.
When raindrops and sunshine mix, this phenonomen happens.
And the road to Trappers Lake takes on an eerie appeal.
Ten years ago, there was a devastating fire that took over 10,000 acres.
The aftermath is still very apparent.
Even though the Forest Service doesn't seem to have this area high on its list to replant, those purple flowers in the foreground are determind to live here again.
About the only wildlife we saw along the way were cows, until we saw these . . .
A couple of meese, mooses, mice . . .
