One of my favorite places to photograph are the Bookcliffs and Mt. Garfield. The colors are ever-changing and I could just sit and watch them all day long...all day long...all day long...BUT, I'm not even there to enjoy this view.

Which way do you see me turning?
Clockwise?
Counter clockwise?
Can you make me change direction?
Supposedly, if I am turning clockwise, your left side of the brain is doing the work, and you are a logical/analytical person.
If I am turning counter-clockwise your right side of the brain is doing the work and you are an artistic/intuitive person.
If you can change the direction I am turning, you have had too many beers or not enough coffee.

Howard Gardner's Theory of Multiple Intelligences was the 'philosophy' my curriculum was based on during my teaching career. One of the Intelligences is Visual-Spatial. This post could fit into that category. If you have kiddos close by, let them look for Mickey, too. Have fun.

This will be the L.A.S.T. in a series of The Male vs. Female Brain Posts...for awhile.
Researchers have been studying the differences in male and female brains for years. Here are a few findings that might prove interesting and possibly answer a few questions about male/female behavior.
And, "cerealously" this is "empirical evidence" not like the "evidence" I submitted the other day.
Reuben Gur from the University of PA enlisted the use of Positron Emission Tomography (PET) by having his volunteers injected with radioactive glucose (brain food). This study focused on recognizing happiness and sadness. The females were able to choose a sad face 90 % of the time on the faces of both men and women. The male recognized sadness on men's faces 90% of the time but only 70% of the time on women. Gur pointed out this proves men have to be able to read each other to know if they're getting ready to be punched out. The term "poker face" can also be applied to men reading other men's faces at crucial times. As far a intuition about relationships go, he concluded that females acute senses pick up on subtle tones of voice and facial expressions but the males couldn't tell a sad face until it drenched them in tears up to their armpits.
At UCLA, neuroendrocrinologists, Roger Gorski and Laura Allen's studies concluded that in the male brain, the right and left sides barely knew what the other was doing, while in the female's there was an onging chit-chat between the two. They also examined 146 brains from cadavers and found the back of women's corpus callosum up to 23% bigger than men's.
Neuroscientists know of only ONE force that can prune or stimulate, kill or nourish the brain's gaggles of neurons. That force is sex hormones.
To not bore you any longer with study results, I have produced the following drawing. They (whoever they are) say a picture is worth a thousand words. So, no more words. The two brains are not labeled. Can you determine which one is male and which one is female ?

During my teaching years, Howard Gardner's theory of Multiple Intelligences was the backbone of my curriculum.
In several of my previous posts, I have categorized them accordingly. Today's post is an example of Visual /Spatial Intelligence.
Three different tests were conducted for this particular experiment in many universities across the United States:
1) a casual hypothesis test in which two identical groups were used: a control group and an experimental group.
2) a double-blind test
3) a randomized test
All three tests were used in order to reduce error, self deception, and bias.
The purpose of the test is to determine how quickly you can locate the dogs in the following picture.
Hint #1: The dogs will appear to be white with black spots.
Hint #2: There are only two (2) dogs.
Reseachers have not concluded why males consistenly score higher (find the dogs more quickly) than females. The average time for females is 1 minute 30 seconds. The average time for males is 10 seconds.
If you are familiar with Bev Doolittle's Camouflaged Horses, this will give you a slight edge over those who haven't. Here is the test. First, close your eyes for about 5 seconds, take a deep breath, open your eyes, intently focus on the middle of your computer screen, then scroll down.
