Iguana Safari . . . Upcoming

For fun, I have promised a grandkid or two an "I Spy" activity.

But, because I've had a change of plans and will be traveling again, here's just a teaser.

During my teaching days, these were called figure-ground activities. 

Howard Gardner classifies it as Visual-Spatial activity.

When we were driving, we called it "I Spy" or "See It."

No matter what you choose to call it, everyone will probably agree it's fun !

Look at the first photo and locate the Iguana.

If you can't find it, the next photo will be zoomed in a little closer so that the Iguana is easier to find.

BUT !

Do not give up too quickly and scroll to the next photo until you've spent a while looking for the Iguana in the first photos.

This is a fairly easy one.

Ready !

Set !

Go !

Look at the word:  I G U A N A

Close your eyes and spell:  Iguana

What would you like to name this guy ?

Have your mommies or daddies post your ideas on the comment page.

Even grown-ups can name-the-iguana !

But I can't.

What I can do is post them here and thank Kelley for sending them to me and hope that Graph Jam doesn't get mad that I posted them. 

So, if they do, hurry up and look at them just in case I have to delete them . . .

 

 

When I was teaching "How to Graph"  to fourth graders, we used topics like Favorite Candy Bars and used the wrappers to graph with after we ATE all those candy bars in class . . .

Seeing these brought back memories of Butterfingers, Snickers, Almond Joys, and about 25 nine-year-olds on sugar highs but having the concept of How to Graph indelibly etched into their brains.

 

Just Shoot Me

  Finally, I remembered was reminded about playing "Just Shoot Me."

My glob-bud in Transylvania Pennsylvania is hosting this, so take your camera and head over to her place for some more mug shots.

I thought it was apropo to use a photo that had a gun in it . . . "just shoot me" . . . get it ?

Palm Trees in the Pool. Reflections and Perspectives.

Morning is the favorite part of my day.  Especially if I don't have to go anywhere which necessitates the application of war paint.

During our recent trip to Scottsdale, my ritual was to head to the pool about 6:00 a.m. with my book in one hand, coffee in the other, and camera dangling from my neck.

There was a wonderful hot tub with no one in it.  Except me.  There I enjoyed watching the day awaken to a beautiful sun rise. 

On this particular day, there was a haze that the sun unsuccessfully burned off.  But the rain didn't begin until after my morning by the pool.

This was the reflection in the pool.  That's how I took the photo. Upside Down.

Otherwise, my reflection showed up and that was not a pretty sight.

So, to keep you from having to stand on your head or turn your computer monitor up-side-down, here's  the 180 degrees perspective . . .

 

So, that's how I spent the morning.  Photographing reflections of palm trees in the pool.

 

If you're lysdexic like I am, reading this poses no problem.

Thankful Thursday and ALMOST Wordless Thursday

 

These photos were taken of Mt. Garfield and The Bookcliffs. These colors "happened" in less than two minutes.

Colorado Bookcliffs and Mt. Garfield

One of my favorite places to photograph are the Bookcliffs and Mt. Garfield. The colors are ever-changing and I could just sit and watch them all day long...all day long...all day long...BUT, I'm not even there to enjoy this view.

Once agin ya'll (I tawk lak this when I'm in Oklahoma), thanks for the visits. Someday, I'll be knock, knock, knockin' on your door.

Which Way Am I Turning ?

Which way do you see me turning?

Clockwise?

Counter clockwise?

Can you make me change direction?

Supposedly, if I am turning clockwise, your left side of the brain is doing the work, and you are a logical/analytical person.
If I am turning counter-clockwise your right side of the brain is doing the work and you are an artistic/intuitive person.
If you can change the direction I am turning, you have had too many beers or not enough coffee.

UPDATE #1: theHansMan doesn't even realize I'm moving. He's only focused on two things...

UPDATE #2:  Thanks to my new son-in-law for providing today's post. By now, you've probably figured out that's not really me.
Question for D: When are you going to send the the male version of this visual-spatial exercise?

Visual Spatial Exercise

With school starting, the urge hit to share a Visual-Spatial lesson plan based on Howard Gardner's Eight Multiple Intelligences.

This one is fun. Bring the kids over because they'll enjoy it, too.

Here are the directions:
Look at the word and name the COLOR it is written in.

For instance:   

PURPLE

the answer is RED not PURPLE because the word is written in RED.

Count the number of correct answers and seconds.

Where in the World Is/Are Mickey Mice

There were many fringe benefits that came with my teaching career. One benefit was that my students taught me something new e.v.e.r.y.  day.

This post refers to yesterday's post and the following bloggers' comments about looking for Mickey Mouse.  There were several Mickey Mouses, Mickey Mice...there were several Mickeys in the photographs which these observant bloggers and their children found for me.

Diesel : I am the one who needs to think 'outside the box.'  Read on.

Beccy : You were looking in the correct place among the cacti.

MJD : Nothing wrong with looking in the foreground. He's there, too.

Claudia : Yup ! He is in the cactus in the foreground.

Karmyn's son found Mickey immediately in the cactus. I didn't see him until he was pointed out to me, several times.  Leave it to a child to make me look like an idiot.

Her Indoors : Well, he IS in the cactus.

So, not only did Mickey ROCK...he was a STICKY Mickey, too.  Thanks guys for playing along and helping to remind me there's always more than one correct answer.

Leann: Glad the telemarketer conversation gave you a giggle.
