More Than a Name on a Wall

For some reason, with all the politcial ads...many dealing with our troops all over the World, this song keeps playing in my head.  Even though it's about the Viet Nam War, the words apply to every person we've ever lost in any war.  It's just over 200 seconds long but says so much.

Since Typepad has "upgraded" I've not been able to link the actual Youtube video here, so just clink this link.  And if anyone can tell me what's different about posting from Youtube, I'm all ears.

Jimmy Fortune is, by far, my favorite tenor of all time !  And, I may be wrong, but I think he wrote the words and music to this song.

If I Die Before You Wake

I didn't have time to create a Veteran's Day Post, but I believe we should remember those who have served and are serving, EVERYDAY.

IF I DIE BEFORE YOU WAKE  (take 4 minutes to watch and listen)

For more information about this song.  (clink the link)

Most of you know that my blood runs Red, White, and Blue.  That I'm a very patriotic and spiritual person.

This isn't a post to discuss The War. It doesn't have any political overtones.

It's just a reminder...

This post is dedicated to my Uncle Dexie who served our country and is alive and well today.

Connie

As most of you already know, this is one of my favoritest songs.  I have heard many versions of it, but this one has a preface to it that really sets the stage.

Enjoy.

Academy of Country Music Top New Male Vocalist

Have I mentioned that I love, love, love Country Music ?

If you did not read the Becky Hobbs Post, this post might not make much sense. But then again, when have any of my posts made much sense ?   It ended with a question:
Does anyone know who Duane Sciacqua plays with now?

Here are some hints:

100_9317

If you would turn around, we might be able to identify you.

100_9322

Yes, that's Duane on the right pointing to us, but who's on the left ?

100_9379

And there you are on the JumboTron...

100_9355

Love that smile and the giggle in your wiggle.

100_9312

100_9331

That's Kelley on the left and Randy on the right, but who's in the midde?

100_9281

Yes, that's Rodney Atkins.

Yes, that was our sunrise this morning. No, my camera wasn't out of focus.
That is "The Smoke from a Distant Fire" in Utah.

Dear Duane,
I just couldn't help myself. These were too funny not to put on the Internet. I promise, only a few people will see these pictures.
Now, just what is it you're doing with that pirate hat on ?

Blogging Singin' Chicks Carnival

Well, I think there is a Blogging Chicks Carnival today. To find out for sure, check it out HERE.   If there isn't, I'll just have my own little carnival and call it "Sing Along with Swampy."  Actually, I was asked once to sing back up...they asked me to back way up from the microphone.

Cerealously, turn back the hands of time to the 1960's. Picture a young couple walking home together from the shopping center in a small Oklahoma town. The young man tries to impress the young lady who is a talented musician and is already composing songs.

He says, "You know the Beatles will never make it."

She smiles.

That might explain the first autographed CD cover, "To my first flame...The Beatles Rock." Yes, that CD is to theHansMan from theBeckaroo.100_9357

To set the stage, before reading on, listen to George on the Jukebox and then listen to a tribute to Momaroo.

Have you ever heard, "Angels Among Us" by Alabama?"  This song was written by Becky and Mr. Don Goodman. Whether you believe in angels or not, this song has found its place in the hearts of many, mine for sure ! The verse with the childrens' voices always gives me goose bumps. If you have not READ THIS STORY, about what that song did, it is well worth your time to read it now.  Becky's has also written songs recorded by Conway Twitty, George Jones, Loretta Lynn, Glen Campbell, Emmylou Harris, Helen Reddy, John Anderson...just to name a few.

This is where the Youtube Screens would appear, but since I still don't know how to embed them, just click on the links above.

I have listened to Becky's music 'ever since' marrying the HansMans. Because the stories she tells with her words and music are about life in Oklahoma, life in general, the Viet Nam War (Time Stands Still), dancin' with strangers, Paris France, the Cherokee People, Johnny Cash, and on and on, I have continued to listen and love it for thirteen years. Stevie Nicks has a Becky Hobbs' sound and no one can burn up those keys like Becky.  Her music is a combination of Honky Tonk, Rock-a-Billy, Western Swing, Beautiful Ballads, and just Good 'Ole Toe Tappin' Down Home Country.

I had the pleasure to meet Becky last summer at The Inn at Price Tower in Bartlesville, Oklahoma.  (the only skyscraper designed by Frank Lloyd Wright)  She was dressed to the nines and I was in my pajamas. What an impression I must have made on my husband's 'old flame.'

Moving along to present day.
Yup, that's Becky at our house poundin' those keys and makin' music like this place has never heard.

Just one quick Boogey Woogey tune before heading out to listen to ...

Duane Sciacqua, Becky's husband and guitarist.

He has toured with Glenn Frey (Eagles), played with Paul McCartney, Don Henley, Vince Gill, just to mention a few.  He also produces songs for Becky.

Needless to say, it was a wonderful, music-filled two days. We could have listened forever. Thank you Becky and Duane for enriching our lives.

Question:  Does anyone know who Duane is touring with now ?

Hint: He is the 2007 Academy of Country Music Best New Male Vocalist.
That is the topic of a post for next week. Stay tuned for more music.

Blowin' in the Wind

Another category of Howard Gardner's Theory of Multiple Intelligences is Musical - Rhythmical.

In keeping with yesterday's theme, differences in the male and the female brain, here are the words to a song that pretty well sums up the "male-brain-thing."  I heard it on NPR many years ago performed by the Chenille Sisters.

Blowin' in the Wind

(a female perspective) - with apologies to Mr. Dylan

How many roads must a man drive down

Before he admits he is lost ?

Why when a man becomes married is he

Unable to find his own socks?

How many times will it take 'til he knows

He's seen the Three Stooges enough?

The answer my friend, I cannot comprehend

The answer I cannot comprehend.

How many shows can a man surf through

Before the remote burns out ?

Why does he think that an intimate gift

Is a Dust Buster Plus for the house?

How many sounds can a man's body make

Before he sleeps on the couch?

The answer my friend is take two aspirin

The answer is take two aspirin.

Why when we go for a romantic drive

Do we wind up at Home Depot again?

How many nights will he leave the seat up

So I land on cold porcelain?

How men really feel is a mystery to me

And probably a mystery to them.

The answer girlfriend is driving me to gin

The answer is driving me to gin.

Man_3_stages_3

TheHansMan is still in Stage ONE.

He didn't grow up...he just stood around a got big. And, obviously, he didn't ask for directions, either, or he wouldn't have ended up in this tree.

Now, go back and instead of just reading the words to that song, SING it. You'll smile for awhile, I promise, even if you are a guy.

Anyone up to writing a fourth verse?  Or perhaps, you guys might want to compose your own song.

If you don't remember the "tune," here's a LISTEN.
