Night of the Living-Dead...Bride and Groom

 Since this was first posted on October 27, 2008, a few of us  a few thousand of us  a few million of us have become familiar with something called Facebook.

Here is  my Halloween Costume for 2011:

Monday, October 27 means that in only four days the little munchkins will be knock knock knocking on my front door saying things like, "Treat or Treat...Smell my Feet...Give Me Something Good to Eat !  And what a suprise they will get when they try to eat what Swampy gives them.

It also means that Mon Funday has descended upon us again. Today's hostess-widda-mostess is Sayre at Sayre Smiles.  Her challenge for us today is this:

Tell us about your favorite Halloween as a kid (pictures, if you have them!), and show us your costume for this year. If you're not dressing up, show us a picture of a pumpkin carving that really tickled your fancy or how you decorated your house.

My post today is a sincere attempt to follow the Mon Funday rules. It contains a variety of FASHION FELONIES that I photographed at Hope's Night of the Living Dead Bride and Groom party. So pour yourself a cup of your favorite brew, sit down, and enjoy the style show.

Oh, look ! Tina has moved on from Groovey Dalamtian Dude to Joe the Plumber. Geez, I hope that's a NEW plunger.

Not sure what Anne Bonney looked like, but there's no doubt she probably wasn't this pretty.

Then, there was the doctor.  (I might add this tidbit:  Joe the Plumber was the guy who created the "mammogram machine" but was generous enough to share it with the doctor.)

Benjamin and Strawberry Pickin'. . . and Grinnin' . . . and Eatin'

So glad to see that Mon Funday is still alive and well ! 

Smilin' Sayre is our hostess today.  Here is her challenge:

 What is your favorite cook-out food and/or recipe? OR What special dish are you known for at gatherings of family or friends ?

Well, I warned Sayre that there have been a few  several  many times that I've signed up for Mon Funday but didn't exactly follow the rules.  But, I do promise to post a special dish later this week, complete with photos of preparing it. (Hint: The dish is from Pioneer Woman's Cookbook and is being prepared for JulieBug~Another Chance Ranch~ and McDreamy.)

Until then, the dish that's being prepared eaten today is fresh strawberries.

But before we enjoy these strawberries, here's the history behind them . . . when my Grandmama Wheeler passed away several years ago at the age of 93, I planted THREE itty bitty strawberry plants in her honor.  Little did I know that those THREE itty bitty strawberry plants would take over my entire garden !  The strawberries are tiny little bursts of sugar !  The very best strawberries that will ever melt in your mouth.   Just ask Benjamin.

Today was a special day because my little cousin, Benjamin, came over to help me pick the strawberries so that we could have them for dessert.

Looks like Benjamin has found his first strawberry.

According to the look on Benjamin's face, he enjoyed that first strawberry.

 

OK, Benjamin.  Put the strawberry in your bowl. 

 

BENJAMIN !  I said put the strawberry in the bowl, not your mouth.

 

Wonderful !  A strawberry in the bowl.

Benjamin. BENJAMIN !  What are you doing ?  Leave the strawberry in the bowl.

 

Ben . . . Ja . . . Min ! 

 

Ginger has decided to help Benjamin pick the strawberries.

 

Actually, Ginger is eating the strawberries, too.
For the last few days, the strawberries have been mysteriously disappearing, and we blamed it on the quail. 
Now we know !  Ginger has been eating the strawberries.

Good job, Benjamin.

 

Pick those strawberries !

 

H-m-m-m-m ! 

 

After all was said and done, we ended up with 12, yes count them, TWELVE strawberries for dessert.
This is because Benjamin's mommy picked them.

And Now, The Rest of the Story

Yesterday was Mon Funday and Roger at A Screed in Time asked, "If you could pick any ten years over again, without changing them, which ten years would you choose and why ? These years do not have to be consecutive years, but there should be ten, okay ?"

Here is my decade:

1952:  My birthyear. Has to be at the top of the list, literally and figuratively. Without that year, I wouldn't be here typing away !
1969:  Graduated from high school.  Few weeks later, married for the first time.
1972:  Graduated from college.  Signed first teaching contract.
1974:  First daughter was born.
1981:  Second daughter was born.
1993:  Cancer was in remission.
1994:  Married for the second time.
2005:  First grandchild born.
2010:  Second grandchild born.
2011:  Am still alive and kicking.

Mon Funday: A Decade to Live Over Again

  There's a new kid on the block for Mon Funday.  A Screed in Time decided to take on the job of hosting Mon Funday for the month of April. 

Thanks to Roger for taking on this task.  Being the host of Mon Funday is a dangerous  an interesting job.  It requires threatening   asking a bunch of bloggers to join in on the fun. The host must choose challenges for the rest of us to ramble about and learn how to use Mr. Linky so that those of us who sign up are listed with our links.  And, usually, the host/hostess visits each of us globbers and makes some type of profound statement about what we've posted. So, if you've interested in meeting Roger and also see who's participating this week, use the link above. 

The first thing I had to do before creating this post was find out what "screed" meant. Here's what I learned:

Definition of SCREED

Noun

1.  a long discourse or essay, especially a diatribe.

2.  an informal letter, account, or other piece of writing.

Building Trades

a.  strip of plaster or wood applied to a surface to be plastered to serve as a guide for making a true surface.

b.   wooden strip serving as a guide for making a true level surface on a concrete pavement 

c.  board or metal strip dragged across a freshly poured concrete slab to give it its proper level.

British Dialect: 
a.  fragment or shred, as of cloth.

Scot: 
a   tear or rip, especially in cloth.

b.  drinking bout.

It's my assumption that in Roger's case, we're talking about the first two definitions !  Either that or he's a piece of plaster, wood, a metal strip, a shred of cloth, or best of all . . . a drinking bout !

With that bit of research out of the way, we shall continue with the challenge today. 

Roger says this:

Fun Monday: Don't Make Me Stop This Car

 Where have all my Mondays gone ?  Has anyone noticed that March has marched past us and we're all on our way to April ?  Did you know it's only TWO-HUNDRED-SEVENTY-FOUR days until Christmas ? 

Just a reminder that time flies when we're having fun. Or as Kermit the Frog says, "Time is fun when we're having flies."

Enough of that and on to today's topic which is provided by The Georgia Girls at In Good Company.

And finally,  a story (advice) my dad gave me that I still use today. I remember as though it were yesterday:

June 24,1969

I think it was a Tuesday.  It was my sixteenth birthday.  I had just returned from passing my driver's test with flying colors. 

My dad had gone with me to drive home, just in case I didn't pass the test.  He didn't want me to "drive illegally."  **cough cough**

Now I digress. . .

I had been driving since I was about eight years old, sitting in my dad's lap. We lived in the country, so once we left the 'highway' and turned onto the 'dirt road,' he would let me slide over and steer the car while he "worked" the accelerator and brake. 

Once I was tall enough to reach those two pedals, he would let me drive  A LOT. 

On one particular day, he wasn't home, and my mom needed to go to town.  For some reason, she couldn't drive, so I did.  I think I was twelve.

Digression Over and on with the rest of the story:

Now that I was 'legal,' I pulled into the car port and parked. I could not wait to drive all by myself.  As we stepped out of the car, he said, "Wait right here."

He went into the house and returned with a .22 Rifle in his hands.

Many thoughts scattered through my head as he leaned the gun against the hood of the car.  (Holy Shit was what I was actually thinking.)

The conversation went something like this:

Daddy:  Which one of these do you consider a weapon ?  The car or the gun ?

Me:  The gun.

Daddy:  If you aimed this gun at a large crowd of people, how many people do you think would be killed or injured with one shot ?

Me:  One or two.  Maybe three.

Daddy:  If you drove this car through that same crowd of people, how many people do you think would be killed or injured ?

Me:  A lot.

Daddy:  Even though you consider the .22 Rifle a weapon, this car can injure or kill a lot more people.  Treat this car as carefully as you would a weapon.  It can injure or kill people just like this .22 Rifle can.

He walked back into the house, hesistated at the door, and then said, "Now, take the car and drive around by yourself.  I trust you."

Mon Funday at The Asylum

Today's Mon Funday must be prefaced.  When this glob was created back in August of 2006, there was a group of us who became a tight-knit group of glob-buds. Probably because we all started globbing within a couple years or so of each other, so we bonded. I'll not try to list everyone because someone will be left out.  Any of them still around who reads this will let you know who they are if they comment today. These bloggers and readers have been religiously  reading and/or commenting here for quite sometime.  There aren't that many, but they are here everyday.

With that being said, it is with GREAT JOY that I've come across some new glob-buds. I've not ventured out in a very long time to find new globs to leave my profound comments concerning their posts, so when I found that someone had invited me to join in today's Mon Funday, a Happy Dance ensued.  At any rate, may I introduce you to:

Guess what ?  It's Mon Funday time !  How long has it been since Mon Funday was played here ?  A l-o-o-o-o-o-n-n-n-n-n-g time.  That because blogging has found it's way to the bottom of my to do list.  In fact, most days, it's not even on my to do list.  I didn't even know who was hosting Mon Funday until  I came across Ari's glob last night while counting sheep and glob-hopping

That sounded fairly easy, so I decided to join in, then decided it wasn't as easy as I thought.

My mind starting reeling back in time and I visualized myself dancing.  Well, maybe that's not exactly what I was doing.  It was more like my body going into some kind of seizure as I girated to music and not necessarily to the beat.

Well, this white girl can't either.

As you can see, my list of favorite dance songs spans several decades and genres of music.  Writing this post brought back vivid memories of watching a particular show every Saturday night with my parents.  So, when I came across this video of my favorite dance song, you will understand why I was thrilled. 

 

That is probably the most unsettling performance of the Chicken Dance you will ever see.  You will never get back those three minutes and fourteen seconds of your life.  But you watched it.  You know you did. And now, that song is going to be stuck in your head for the next twenty-four hours.

...because my quiet place is my mind.  

Yes.  I love music. 

Yes. I love massages.

Yes. I love meditation.

Yes. I love to exercise.

But, my escape is in my head.

Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.  It may not be Monday at your house, but it's "gotta" be Monday somewhere in this Universe.

This was supposed to be posted last Monday.  What can I say ?  At least I tried to follow the rules this time.

Just didn't seem to post it on the correct day.

Sayre. Sayre. Sayre.  Say What ?  You want us to post body parts ?  Yup. Sayre is still our hostess with the mostess, trying to keep Mon Funday alive, and here's what she says about it:

I want to see/read about your favorite part of your body and why that is. If you want to go the other way and talk about your least favorite, you can either add that on or write about it alone. I think I prefer hearing about both though. If you're going to include the bad, balance it with some good!

As for me, I'm just happy to have all my body parts.  Gravity has taken it's toll of some of them, but for the most part, I have no gripes.  They all still seem to be in fairly good working order, even though some are achy.  But the good news is, when I open my eyes in the morning, and I'm' aching somewhere, I know I'm still alive.

The part of my body that seems to cause the most problems for me is my size twelve mouth.  Both my size six feet fit into it nicely. Even when I'm not even trying to be problematic, things just come out wrong.

This happens mostly with my children. Thinking back over the years, here are a few things that come to mind.

If you don't stop, your face will freeze like that.

Go ask your father.

Because I'm your mother.

Because I said so.

I'm only going to say this once. No.

I only have two hands.

Get your hair out of your face.

You're not wearing that are you?

Eat it, it's good for you.

Clean your plate.

There are starving children.

Don't put that in your mouth.

You have no idea where that's been.

I don't care who started it.

If all your friends jumped off the roof, would you?

You call that music?

Money doesn't grow on trees.

Don't make me stop this car.

Stop jumping over the fountain...

You may fall in someday...

*See, I told you so !

*Twenty-five years ago, my girls were warned every Sunday after lunch, not to jump near, around, or over the fountain at the country club.  Luckily enough, neither of them ever fell in.

Just last week my oldest went home for a surprise birthday party.  They had lunch at the country club.

Guess what ?

She tried to jump the fountain but didn't take into consideration her height, cracked her head on an overhead branch, and fell into the fountain...she didn't just fall in...she submerged into 2 1/2 feet of water. 

My youngest with cell phone in hand, captured that shot which was immediately posted on Facebook !
