Sunday ~ July 22, 2012
My mommy and daddy agreed to let me ride back to Colorado with Gammy and Pops. We left Oklahoma on Sunday morning and drove TWELVE hours to Salida, Colorado.
My mommy was at a church retreat at Grand Lake, so I had to tell her good-bye over the phone.
Here is my account of our first day.
(Gammy's captions are in italics.)
I am just leaving Bartlesville for a 16-hour trip to Pops and Gammy's house and I'm telling my daddy goodbye.
(Also in this photo: Pops is trying desperately to protect all the buttons from being pushed by little brother. He didn't succeed.)
I'm getting ready to leave and my little brother thinks he can go, but my daddy and I are telling him he can't go.
(Reasoning with a 2 year-old . . . no such thing. )
I'm leaving right now and my little brother is crying because he is going to miss me.
(The thought did enter my mind that we could just take him with us, too. That thought lasted for about two seconds. Maybe next year.)
I am leaving my house and I'm watching "Good Luck Charlie" on my iPod Touch.
(Thank you, Steve Jobs.)
We are watching 'Soul Surfer' with our sunglasses on.
Before the day was over, we had watched "Soul Surfer" twice . . . including all the trailers, deleted scenes, documentaries, etc. If you've not seen the movie, you should. Be sure to watch 'how the movie was made.')
I am getting ready to take a nap with all my napping stuff.
(Three items to know where they are at ALL times: Cars Pillow from Aunt Sue and Uncle Joe, Whale Blankie, and Giselle ! )
I am sleeping and I am I cuddling with my baby doll, Giselle.
(At this point, the question, "How much longer?" had been asked no less than FIFTEEN times. I only asked EIGHT times. The problem was, Pops couldn't make up his mind what our destination was going to be. First it was Pueblo...then it was Canon City . . . BUT, we ended up in Salida . . . TWELVE hours later. Not once did she whine or cry about the amount of time we were in the van. I only whined twice.)
I am learning all of my states.
(The school teacher just came out in me, and this kept us busy for several miles. She also was adept at using the "Map App" on the iPhone and calculating 'how much longer.')
Here I am playing Subway Surfer on my gammy's iPhone.
(I tried that game once and was run over by the train within 5 seconds.)
We were at a Salida motel swimming in a salt-water pool.
(Where does a 7-year-old get all her stamina ? After 12 hours in the van and dinner, she was ready for a swim.)
Goodnight !
Stay tuned for Day 2

I'm already enjoying your vacation :)
