Here's wishing all of you a healthy, safe, and happy 2008.
For as long as I can remember, this is the meal I have always eaten on New Year's Day.
Care to share any of your New Year's Day traditions?

My mom would make saukeraut with some kind of hot dogs in them. I never ate it. It's a chip and dip and soup day for us, but salad for NLM. (ask him what his doc told him last week!!!)
From us here to you there, wherever you are... Happy New Year!!

I look more at the open fire then the food, lol I have enough of food for the moment ! When I was a child my mother prepared something sour a herring salad or sauerkraut probably for the hangovers, but I never had something traditional on Jan 1st. It all depends what we like or want to eat this day.
Happy new Year to you too !

Happy New Year. I was corned beef and sauerkraut on New Years day when I was growing up, but I have no NY traditions now.

Happy New Year, Swampy.
My mom made something really similar to what you have when I was growing up, but my Southern grandmother used to make Hoppin' John. In a quest to make something my children would eat, I started making black eyed pea salsa a few years back. It's all yummy!

Mine looked similar growing up except we always had greens of some kind as well. Yummy.

Happy New Year! I don't really like black-eyed peas but I try to eat a little on New Year's. Sometimes we have eaten from Sonic and they give black-eyed peas on that day. Theirs are fairly good. This year I found a black-eyed pea dip that I may try.

Dear Sweet Swampy, all the best of the New Year to you!

Happy New Years.
I've only had black eyed peas a few times in my life. But, if you fix them, I'll eat them.
